A fine warm day and excellent conditions for rugby saw Carterton
play what many thought was close to the perfect game in the first
half. Tries to Tipene Haira and two each to Joe Harwood and Charlie
Brown, with three conversions to Jono Hurley had Carterton well
ahead at the break by 31 to 0. The passes were sticking and there
were some impressive tries stemming from moves that had been
practiced all year.
The second half was very evenly contested with credit to Puketoi
who never gave the game away. An early try to them was matched late
in the game by a try to Cory Price and conversion to Jono Hurley
saw Carterton take maximum points from the game with the final
score 38 to 5.
The objective set at the start of the season has been met with
Carterton having now cemented a home semi-final in two weeks time
and also looking to have won the competition second round.
