PIONEER v CARTERTON 30 -
25
Discipline once again cost us a win. Within the
first ten minutes conceding four penalties which Pioneer took full
advantage of to score 2 tries, a conversion and a penalty.
This effectively shut us out of the game.
Despite another strong forward effort from the tight
five and robust running from the Loosies and inside backs, just one
try to Mana Apiata gave Pioneer a half time lead 20 -
5.
Starting strongly in the second half with superb mauling
up front and hard running from the outside backs, the pressure paid
off with an intercept try to James Mathews. Pioneer repaid us
with two more tries before James Mathews and Dwayne Mikaera scored
tries and a last minute penalty to Willie Jepson, left us
regretting the first ten minutes.
We came away losing 30 - 25, but gained two bonus
points.
If we can start a game how we finish, we will be a real
force in the next round.
