Unlike previous weeks, the Carterton team started with fire and
commitment. In a tight game for the first half, each team had
opportunities and it was Marist that soon head the lead with two
penalties matched by Carterton's single penalty. Right on the
stroke of half time Matt Harrison scored in the corner for the
score at the turn to be Carterton 8 and Marist 6.
The second half was mostly Carterton with attack after attack
resulting in points. After a handy lead, it appeared as though the
team went to sleep and sat back on their lead. Marist played fast
and almost sevens rugby to score two tries, but the earlier tries
to Jono Hurley, Lance Stevenson, and Tommy Harmon, along with two
conversions to Jono Hurley and a further penalty to Tipene Haira
saw Carterton run our eventual winners 30 to 16.
A great game that cements Carterton at the top of the
competition points table.
