In what many would describe as the worst weather conditions seen
for many years for rugby, both Carterton teams booked their way to
their respective finals this coming Saturday. Firstly the Senior
Reserves overcame a strong challenge from Eketahuna to seal their
final against East Coast in the Senior Reserve Plate final.
The main Senior A game was, as expected with the weather and the
rugby styles of both teams, a right royal slug out with no team
giving any quarter. The scoring was low, but the four penalties
from Jarrod Nyssen were enough to claim the game 12 - 9.
The heart of the Carterton team was on display for all those
present to see. They have to withstand not only the conditions but
wave after wave of Martinborough attacks late in the game to ensure
they had the opportunity to defend their championship title next
week. In a suprise twist to the season, East Coast lost their first
game of the season and so our opponents in next weeks grand final
will be Gladstone.
A supporter's bus will be leaving the Carterton Clubrooms on
Saturday for the final. If you are interested all enquiries can be
made at the clubrooms during this week.
